The Small Business Accountant

Questions owners ask before they call

The Small Business Accountant, or TSBA, is the accounting practice of TSBA (Pty) Ltd in Cape Town, Western Cape. The firm looks after bookkeeping, monthly accounting, SARS tax, VAT, payroll and Sage for family businesses and other businesses the owner still runs. Rudolf Etsebeth is the founding director and financial director.

Rudolf Etsebeth is a chartered accountant and SAICA member since 2007. He has guided small business owners from Cape Town since then, and in September 2018 he founded TSBA (Pty) Ltd. Earlier in his career he worked as a project accountant at BroadReach Healthcare and as an audit manager at Moore Stephens VDA. He is a Sage Business Cloud Accounting adviser and an accredited FNB Instant Accountant.

The practice is based in Cape Town, Western Cape. Most of the monthly work happens in Sage, on email and on a call, so clients do not have to be in the city. We meet Cape Town owners in person when that helps. Businesses elsewhere in South Africa are welcome when the fit is right.

Monthly accounting and bookkeeping, SARS income tax and provisional tax, VAT, payroll (PAYE, UIF and SDL), Sage Business Cloud Accounting setup and month end, and a longer view for family businesses that are starting, growing or preparing to hand over or sell. We quote after a conversation. Prices are not listed online because a farm, a shop and a professional practice do not take the same hours.

First- and second-generation family businesses, and other businesses the owner still runs, when they want a small firm rather than a call centre. You might be starting, you might already be trading, or you might be thinking about the next owner. If the books have slipped, that is a normal place to begin. We are a small business ourselves.

Book a discovery call. It is a 90 minute meeting and costs R1,500, paid on PayFast. You then choose a time. You can also email hello@tsba.co.za or call 022 100 0925. Tell us whether you are in Start up, Grow up, or Get out. We will ask about the entity, the bank, VAT and payroll, then say honestly whether we are the right practice and what the first month would cover.

No. The guides are general information for South African small businesses, reviewed against SARS publications on 28 September 2026. Thresholds, dates and penalty rules change, and some Budget 2026 changes were administered by SARS while Parliament’s process was still being described as open.
